and so it begins...

Well, I must say we have been pretty lucky so far both babies have been on a good schedule, we have been able to feed one and then the other while one so patiently waits. We have been averaging about 4-5 hours of uninterrupted sleep with our shift schedule : ) However, today was a new day and an interesting start that is for sure.

My sister Sara reminded me that my dad once said "when you start having a few kids things can start to go haywire real fast" I am sure my mom and dad had their haywire moments with 5 kids and I have to laugh because we surely had some haywire moments this morning.

So here is how our morning went::

Both babies woke up at the same time and HUNGRY, it was like a symphony of little cries : )

A fuse blew in the kitchen so we did not have any power for a bit, no coffee, no bottle warmer, no pancakes : (

Right after the pancake griddle blew the fuse, our dog Morris threw up in the middle of our carpeted dining room and Mac was so kindly trying to help Jared with the carpet cleaner.

The fuse blowing caused the smoke detectors to all beep simultaneously.

Mac was HUNGRY and all riled up because the pancakes weren't coming fast enough or coming at all for that matter.

Jared couldn't fix the fuse in the kitchen because the old truck in the garage was in the way. It took awhile to fix the fuse because he couldn't find the truck keys and then to top it off it wouldn't start so he had to put it in neutral and push it out.

Mac decided to learn how to undo the deadbolt on our front door, opened both the front door and screen door and let the dog outside while we were feeding the babies. I went outside with the baby in my arms, barefoot in pajamas to track the dog down. Luckily Morris came back.

Henry spit up all over me, him and almost every item of clothing that we were both wearing.

BUT...
You have to laugh. I am sure we are going to have our "haywire" moments... But it all works out. Everyone is napping peacefully now and I am sure the rest of our day will not be as adventurous or maybe it will : )

Sara so graciously put it, "I get why mom let us do what we did. If Mac was drawing on the wall right now with that pen I wouldn't care" and I agreed.

it is so worth it all...

Ta-Da

God gives us what we can handle and I am sure glad he gave us our three special boys.

our family of five :)

Well we made it through. We welcomed our two bundles of joy on June 21st they were 21 minutes apart. Interestingly Mac was born on March 21st, their birthdays will be very easy to remember :)

Born first was Henry Steven. He is a talker and strong. He is always making cute noises and letting us know. He was named after his Grandpa Moody. His nickname is "hank" and that was my dads nickname growing up :)

Hank
Born second was Oliver Lyman. He is content, peaceful and alert. He is named after my Grandma Olive and his daddy Jared Lyman. His nickname is "oly" which is a great Scandinavian name :)

Oly

Mac the big brother is doing excellent :) he loves to hold the babies and help feed too. We are blessed to have 3 very special and unique boys :)

Mac

Today we did some tummy time : ) Oliver was content sucking his thumb looking around, while Mac joined him on the play-mat for some tummy fun. Henry of course was not keen on tummy time and proceeded to flip himself from his tummy to his back and then let us know he was done.

Mac and Oly tummy time : )
Here are Henry and Oliver sleeping : ) They are just like their big brother Mac. Love to sleep with their hands over their head "touchdown"!!

Mac

Henry & Oliver

Here are some photos from our recent days at home. We got to go home 2 days after delivery which was fantastic. We are getting 'some' sleep but can't complain. Jared and I have been known to text each other from up/downstairs instead of going to find each other because we are t.i.r.e.d. We have been awake and laughing hard at 0200 after everyone is 'tooting' or filled a diaper just after we changed it. Everything is so worth it, our family of five is wonderful and we couldn't be more blessed.

Happy Birthday

labor this...

So it has begun... labor. Yesterday my water broke. I walked out onto the deck at 8pm to let Jared know that indeed my water broke. At the time he was picking up a 40 lb pot in the backyard trying to transplant our Jasmine with the help of sister Sara. Sara dropped the shovel, ran over and quickly stated "you better go".  Jared, left holding the ceramic pot and a big jasmine, looked up as he was lifting and said "Any chance I could finish?" I replied "Yes". Out of all care and concern Sara was adamant that we head on out the the hospital.  Jared and I however, were hoping to postpone our trip to the hospital for awhile knowing that there was still a long journey ahead, but I suppose that is the name of the game when the water breaks.

After Jared finished replanting our Jasmine, he asked so kindly "Are you sure your water broke". I said "Well I usually don't pee down my leg, so I think so". He said "good point", and then off we went to the hospital.

We were greeted so kindly by a nice older gentleman detoxing from alcohol in the E.R., I suppose that is the normal action for 9:30 at night.

So now we are waiting and waiting and waiting. Our little twins have a mind of their own and just don't seem ready to make the move into the world which is A-okay, we will be patient. The toughest thing for me so far is that I have been leashed to the fetal monitor for my reminder of my hospital stay. I can move from the bed to the floor next to me and then back to the bed and WOW, it is difficult.

We will keep on updating as we continue to progress : )  Happy Laboring.

pregnancy fashion:: maternity wear

This pregnancy I didn't want to have to wear all maternity wear. Personal opinion I feel maternity clothes are expensive and most of the time ill-fitting. There are some staple maternity pieces that I did need like pants and  a few tops, but otherwise it was slim pickings. I did invest in some good maternity jeans 2 pairs :) other than that most clothes were non-maternity. Here are some of my favorites for my pregnancy wardrobe::

 H&M maternity jeans::
- flattering
- inexpensive
- worked for me through my entire twin pregnancy : )
- the best maternity jeans in my opinion

H M maternity

H M maternity

BP double scoop tank dress - Nordstrom::
- well it's technically a dress but i don't know how that would work out.
- can't say i would ever wear it as a dress.
- great for maternity and non-maternity :)
- i bought in yellow, red/white stripe and black and wear them all the time.
- these will work as great layering tanks after pregnancy too!

house tour:: mac's new big boy room!

Here is a glimpse at Mac's new big boy room... He loves it, mostly because he is in a big boy bed and has free rain of his books : ) The look of the room is inspired from the old vintage brass twin beds we so graciously given to us by aunt Mary. The brass beds were originally from my Grandma Jane's house which is wonderful. Mac's room is a mix of old, handmade and some new.

house tour :: kitchen

We have had a blast making our house our own. I am so lucky to have such a wonderful handy husband. We spent quite some time on our kitchen and it is just the way we want it now. We didn't have to spend much to make it perfect mostly because a lot of it was DIY : ) We added new floors, countertops, sink, moldings, island, paint paint paint, range/hood, and tile backsplash. We had the floors professionally installed and the cabinets sprayed with oil base paint, but everything else was done by my husband and myself. He amazes me everyday.

Before::

After::

My favorite pieces in the kitchen are::

1. Kitchen island - it is a old Dewalt work bench found for $20 at the habitat for humanity store. The butcher block on top was $200 from Ikea and Jared of course put the island on wheels which is amazingly practical!

2. Chalkboard - this is Jared's crafty work, it is just chalkboard and magnet painted plywood with molding around it. We love it! Mac loves it more!!

3. The double drain board sink -- we found it at a second use store for $125 before we even bought our house. We bought it and kept it in storage until we could put it in our house someday.

4. Tile backsplash -- we bought white subway tile from Home Depot and grouted with grey grout. It is beautiful and was pretty darn cheap.

Thank you Jared for all your hard work :)

Do pregnant women become public property?

I just have to share my thoughts about pregnancy. I think pregnant women become a little bit of public property when expecting. I've had my fair share of people saying "wow you are huge", "are you going to eat that" and the list goes on. I have compiled my top moments from this pregnancy. And being pregnant with twins the comments just got better and better : ) Don't get me wrong the majority of people were wonderful and sweet. I just have to laugh when people are less than tactful : ) I definitely take every comment with a grain of salt and usually it makes me smile.

MY TOP LIST::

1."So are these twins natural or you know???" Stranger if you are asking me if I have a fertility problem then this is going to get awkward real fast. But for the books, yes natural if it's any of anyones business.

2. As I am walking into work one day two guys outside (perfect strangers) talking amongst each other loud enough for me to hear them "Damn, she is huge and about ready to pop!" Thank you perfect strangers. I appreciate the compliment and no I am only 6 months pregnant thank you : )

3. "Are you going to drink that" As I am trying to peacefully enjoy my morning cup of coffee. Yes I am going to drink it and like it... And for educational purposes pregnant women CAN drink caffeine.

4. This one takes the cake. I was at work talking to a doctor whom I do not know about a mutual patient. In the middle of the conversation he says " Sorry but you are about ready to pop" I say Well I have three weeks to go, but I am pregnant with twins.  He so kindly says "Oh good, I was going to say that can't be one baby in there you are too big". Thank you? He proceeds to say "I mean if it was one baby in there than that is a baby that no women would want to have to deliver". I say, Um, hmm. I am speechless. Wow, well I think this conversation is over.

5. "They let pregnant women work?"

6. "Wow you look like you are about ready to have those babies". Well I am five months pregnant, so I have about 5 months to go. "Well they look like they could come any day". Oh is that right? As I follow it with an uncomfortable laugh.

7. Random belly touchers are always interesting. There are those family and friends that do not have to necessarily ask. Some people ask, which is fine I don't mind usually. Some people would rather not touch my belly which is perfectly fine.  AND THEN... there are those strangers who feel the urge to touch my belly and that is just weird. I say if you don't know my last name, or first name for that matter then hands off.

THE SWEETEST COMMENT I GOT WHILE PREGNANT WAS::

A lady said to Mac "Your mom's tummy is big" and Mac said "NO, NO, babies are in Mommy's tummy".  Thank you to my little man : )

36 weeks pregnant with twins

I laughed when I saw this :)

Things i am so looking forward to after our babies arrive : )

Don't get me wrong pregnancy is an amazing experience. I am so blessed to get to be a mom of three and have been doubly blessed with twins. There are so many things that are such a joy during pregnancy. I am not one of those women who hate being pregnant that is for sure. However, there are a few tiny sacrifices we make for 10 months while pregnant...

Here is my top ten list of things I am looking forward to in just a few short weeks : )

1. Meeting our precious little babies, seeing their faces, holding them, loving them. There is nothing more special in this world.

2. Running... oh i have so missed you. I cannot wait to get back into it.

3. My first meal after they are born... silly i know but it is like camping the food tastes so good. After such a great workout like 'labor' food has never tasted so good. I think a milkshake might be in order.

4. Sleeping flat on my back.

5. A glass of white wine on the deck this summer or maybe a mojito, or both : )

6. Salami...yummy!!

7. NO heartburn.

8. Hugging jared straight on, no more side hugs : )

9. Keeping up with Mac in a foot race : )

10. My jean shorts.
